Family Building Education Program Aimed to Educate Gay Men in Nail Salons

January 13, 2010 - The American Fertility Association’s Manicures & Martinis Family Building Program returns to Los Angeles this month, with a focus on gestational surrogacy, an option often used by men in same sex relationships. One of the West Coast’s top fertility specialists and a family building attorney will lead a one hour discussion, while participants enjoy complimentary manicures or pedicures and martinis.

“We wish to educate the gay and lesbian community about their options for starting a family. It’s important to provide the legal and medical information necessary to help gay men and lesbians who are interested in becoming parents through egg donation and/or surrogacy,” says Susan Bloom of Fertility Source Companies, which is proudly sponsoring the event.

Everything from legal aspects to medical procedures surrounding gestational and traditional surrogacy will be discussed by Guy Ringler, MD of California Fertility Partners and an attorney from Meyers & O’Hara Attorneys at Law. While surrogacy is an option commonly considered by gay men, it’s also an option for straight couples and singles, who are also invited to attend. The event will be an eye-opening learning experience.

Ken Mosesian, Executive Director of The American Fertility Association, says, “The American Fertility Association is the only all-inclusive patient support and education organization in the family building arena. We have four areas of focus: infertility prevention, trying to conceive / trying to adopt, men’s reproductive health, and family building for the LGBT community. The theme of this particular Manicures & Martinis event is one of many services we provide those in the LGBT community who are interested in becoming parents.”

So far, Manicures & Martinis has been held in 12 cities across the country, from New York City to Chicago to San Francisco, with more events on the way.
